I have been writing political articles for some time now. For those of you who are not familiar with my work; I invite you to visit my blog site: http://dean-connorsblog.blogspot.com. As much as I enjoy it, it doesn't put food on the table. This is why I chose to venture into the world of online sales.

Prior to an illness, I was a construction supervisor after having started as a carpenter. Since I was forced to retire at a relatively young age; I was constantly seeking alternative careers. I enrolled at Colorado Tech University (online) after being away from school for 30 years. I received an Associate's Degree in Criminal Justice with the hope of becoming a Juvenile Counselor in a detention facility. I felt that my own life experiences coupled with my education would enable me to be an effective counselor and perhaps help alter the course of troubled youths. Unfortunately, the economic climate prevalent today makes it highly unlikely that I will be hired anytime soon. Once again-I found myself searching for a source of income.

I am fortunate to be married to a wonderful and supportive wife. Together, we formed a corporation and developed a website dedicated to a niche I am familiar with: tools. The domain is entitled www.dreamtoolstore.com. It is still in the embryonic stage and I spend a great deal of my time researching ways to place our website on the search engines. I discovered that 80% of online sales are generated through various search engines such as Google and Bing. One way to accomplish this is to submit promotional articles to different directories. I find it much easier to write about politics than it is to write articles about tools. Though I have yet to accomplish my goal of establishing my website on the search engines; I am not a man who is easily deterred.

My situation is by no means unique. Even if my health had not failed me, the construction industry is one of the hardest hit by the recession we find ourselves in. Americans from all walks find themselves in similar situations. With unemployment continuing to rise at an alarming rate, more and more professionals find themselves making career changes in order to provide for their families. Though the economic problem shows little signs of improving-I remain hopeful that the spirit of Americans will prevail and we will find a way to recover and resume our place in the global market. Until then, I would like to extend my best wishes to those who find themselves struggling as I am. Keep in mind; we've been here before and came back stronger than ever.
