I have to admit. I’m not a total expert when it comes to website SEO. I know the ins and outs of online marketing, but there are still much for me to learn in this area.

A few years back, upon the advice of a friend, I put up my own online jewelry shop. I thought it was enough to get my website live. I thought I can now sit back and wait for potential customers to contact me. And so I waited and waited, but only a handful came. When the buyer turnout continued to decline the following months, that’s when I started asking myself what was possibly wrong. And that’s when I found out about SEO services.

A friend told me to find an SEO expert who can help me get lots of traffic to my site and place it on top of search engine rankings. But who is an SEO expert? What does he do? This is what I found out from my research. An SEO expert is the person who keeps websites alive online. He has extensive technical knowledge of the functions of search engine in promoting websites. He also has the experience in using different website designs and language in targeting various search engines online.

My real dilemma came when I had to choose the right SEO expert for my site. How do I find the right one? These are what the articles and websites I read said.

First, look at his working portfolio. See the websites or companies he has worked before and the job he has done for them. This will tell you if he has the capacity to do the job you need to be done. Overall, the candidate should have adequate skill and experience in optimizing websites. He should have a good reputation in the virtual industry, as well.

Second, check his training and education background. He must have up-to-date knowledge of the latest in SEO and able to tell you the best directories and portals online. He does not need to be a web develops, but knowledge in this area would be a plus.

Lastly, see if he has the eagerness to learn more about his job and acquire other skills. This will ensure that he will be able to keep you updated of the changes in the search engine industry. And tell you what to do to improve your ranking in the web.

Sounds a bit easy to do, but decision-making would be a bit hard. You know what I did to save me time looking for the perfect candidate? I search the web for internet marketing companies. I also checked the websites I visit for the name of the person who handled the site’s search engine optimization task. This made my search much, much easier.

Today, with the help of my SEO expert, I can happily say that traffic to my site is good and sales have never been better.
