A community portal about Sega Dreamcast with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: The Sega Dreamcast was Sega's fifth and final video game console and the successor to the Sega Saturn. An attempt to recapture the console market with a next-generation system, it was designed to supersede the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Originally released fifteen months before the PlayStation 2, and three years before the Nintendo GameCube and the Xbox, the Dreamcast was generally considered to be ahead of its time and was initially successful at restoring Sega's reputation in the gaming industry. However, it failed to gather enough momentum before the release of the PlayStation 2 in March 2000, and Sega decided to discontinue the Dreamcast the following year, withdrawing entirely from the console hardware business.
Usually, the history of video game failures is pretty simple. Either the games, the hardware, or the marketing stinks. But there was one failure that was an all around near perfect product, and yet it failed anyway – The SEGA Dreamcast. Why? Read Full Story
This one is quite amusing in a kitsch way. Remember when Allen Iverson was back in his prime? This commercial for NBA 2K1, when the franchise was only in its second year, was fairly advanced for its time.
Need a reminder of what gameplay was like back in the days of NBA 2K1 (in 2000/2001)? Check this video out, especially the great opening sequence to the game.
Oh and by the way, if you want a bizarre comment on a youtube video, check this one out:

My posts about MAME and the old Atari ST have made me come over all nostalgic. They, and the fact that it would’ve been the ill-fated Dreamcast’s 9th birthday this week , got me thinking about the glorious machine that was to mark Sega’s last foray into the home console hardware market. What this little white box couldn’t do wasn’t worth doing, in my opinion - unless you were one of the millions of people who had a broken one, in which case, what it didn’t do definitely was worth doing... It has been claimed that many different things were responsible for the ultimate demise of the Sega Dreamcast, ranging from the complexity of developing software for the Windows CE based console to just plain bad sales figures. But in an recent interview with The Guardian the head of EA Sports, ex-Reebok, Microsoft and Sega man Peter Moore, set the record straight… He was the man that had to make the final call, he was the man that killed the Dreamcast…

So, who do we listen to, Wii Fanboy or Xbox 360 Fanboy ? ( PS3 Fanboy haven’t reported on this yet, but I’m pretty sure they will). Essentially, word on the street is that SEGA re-registered their trademark for the awesome Dreamcast puzzler ChuChu Rocket on December 22nd, and everyone seems to think that it’s an indication of an impending release on one (or all) of the console download services.
I guess it’s a fairly safe bet… Perhaps the social nature of the Wii would suit the game... Read Full Story

When Sega decided to discontinue the Dreamcast, it opted to make its excellent sports titles available for other consoles. And not a moment too soon. Competition is always good and Sega Sports titles, like NBA 2K2, are some of the best in the business. NBA 2K2 features all the teams, rosters, and, most importantly, rule changes (like the now-legal zone defense) found in the real NBA. Player faces have been mapped to realistic body types...
