Self-Publishing
One writer's journey to self-publication. Follow the path as it twist and turns, goes up and down and around.

First things first, while setting up the InDesign file is not really difficult it is time consuming. Luckily I have a second monitor hooked up to my laptop. I can have the original Microsoft Word manuscript up on the laptop screen and the new InDesign manuscript open on the second monitor. It basically then becomes a matter of copying and pasting the information into the new document. Trying to get the column sizes and stuff figured out can be a bit of a challenge but InDesign is extremely easy to work with.
Although I am not quite finished formatting the manuscript for publication, I have sent out a couple of “heads up” e-mails to people who already know about the book. One of them, Rick from the States, told a buddy of his about the book and gave him my contact information. Amazingly Alan has explored many of the sites mention by Louis L’Amour in his novels. He has a ton of photographs of areas and landmarks discussed and is willingly sending them to me. Such beautiful pictures! I will definitely be using one for the back cover but they are so nice it will be hard to choose just one.
I am now waiting for a CD from Alan containing all the photos - if they are all as good as the ones he e-mailed me then the choice will be difficult indeed.
