Sen. Ron Wyden stopped by campus Thursday morning to speak with students about his proposed bill to regulate credit card companies. Presenters from ASSOU and OSPIRG cited recent reports indicating that many college students feel tricked by how credit card companies use deceptive advertising practice to lure them into assuming higher levels of debt. According to KTVL: Wyden says we need a law that regulates credit card companies so more people don't get caught up spending money they don't have. Wyden's plan, the Credit Card Safety Star Act, would place a five-star ratings system on each company. Five stars would indicate a clear and ... Read Full Story

Senator Ron Wyden came to Baker City Sunday afternoon to hold one of the Townhall meetings he promised he would hold each month in a different county when he first ran for Senate. Sen. Wyden keeps that promise. I told the Senator today that I've been a political junky from my pre-teens and, gesturing at my greying hair, noted that covered some ground and that I don't indulge in political heroes, but that he came very close to that mark. U.S. Senator Ron Wyden says he has written a letter to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Secretary of the Air Force Michael Bruce Donley objecting to rumored plans for early retirement of more than 300 fighter aircraft up to 11 years ahead of schedule. Senator Ron Wyden introduced an amendment to legalize and regulate the online gambling industry in the US, a move that could contribute a staggering $6 billion a year to the government through taxes and other sources. “We applaud Senator Wyden's proposal to collect and put to good use tens of billions in Internet gambling revenue that would otherwise be lost in the underground marketplace,” said a spokesperson for the Safe and Secure Internet Gambling ...
