Thad Cochran, the only Repubican Senator who initially agreed to "host" J Street's gala dinner, reportedly has withdrawn. It had seemed to me that Sen. Cochran, who has solid record of supporting Israel, had been misled, and that apparently is the case. J Street represented itself as pro-Israel and Cochran therefore signed on. After reviewing J Street, he decided to sign off, as we hoped he would.

February 20, 2009 The latest domino to fall in the Abramoff scandal is Ann Copland, former staffer of Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran. Copland was identified as "Staffer E" in the Plea Agreement and Factual Basis for Plea of Todd Boulanger . Boulanger, the former legislative aide to Senator Bob Smith (R-N.H.), pleaded guilty last month of bribing congressional staffers with gifts in exchange for pushing legislation favorable to clients. Pictured: Thad Cochran, Erik Fleming, Roger Wicker, Ronnie Musgrove At Rasmussen, the most recent polling of 500 Mississippians shows Republican incumbent Thad Cochran with a solid lead over underfunded Democratic challenger, Erik Fleming. Two years ago, Fleming went after now-retired Senator Trent Lott and was was handily trounced by Trent. It looks like the same result is in the cards for the former state senator. In Mississippi's other senate race, recently appointed incumbent Roger Wicker (R) owns a statistically insignificant 1-point lead over former Governor Ronnie Musgrove (D). Musgrove's status as a former governor provides him the name recognition Fleming sorely lacks. Nonetheless, Wicker ... Read Full Story

As Biloxi’s Sun Herald is reporting , Mississippi Senator Thad Cochran, a Republican, has told the story of how his colleague John McCain once got into “a physical confrontation” on a diplomatic mission in Central America: Cochran said he observed McCain engage in a physical confrontation with a Sandinista while participating in a diplomatic mission led by Sen. Bob Dole and others in the fall of 1987. Cochran, McCain — who had won election to the Senate that year — and other members of a bipartisan committee of lawmakers called the Central American Negotiations Observer Group — met with Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega, head ... This would be a huge loss for the state if Thad Cochran does decide to step down. Here is what was reported in The Hill today : The senior Republican on the Senate Appropriations Committee, Thad Cochran, will soon announce whether he will retire from the upper chamber, a decision that could further shake up a powerful panel and even give Democrats hope of picking up a seat in the GOP stronghold of Mississippi. Cochran says he will make an announcement after Mississippi’s statewide elections, which are on Nov. 6. When asked Tuesday if he would definitely run for reelection, Cochran told The Hill, ... And again it's Mississippi GOP Senator Thad Cochran who brings up JMac's infamous...er..."aggressive" streak. You'll remember that it was the conservative Cochran who tried to thwart McCain's primary bid by regaling an eager press (and GOP competitors) with tales of JMac's blue streaked rants in the Senate and his "disturbing" ...
