AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - The U.N. criminal tribunal for former Yugoslavia Monday rejected a motion by former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic challenging the legitimacy of the court to try him for war crimes. Karadzic, facing 11 charges of war crimes arising from the 1992-95 Bosnian war, including genocide at Srebrenica, lodged a motion last month arguing that the court was a prosecuting organ of the U.N. Security Council. The court said Karadzic's motion that the tribunal was not legally constituted was without merit and such a decision should not come as a surprise to him given the history of the case. "The trial chamber ...

The breakthrough came after EU ministers met with Hague Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz, who reported positively on Serbia's assistance to the tribunal, Serbian broadcaster B92 reported. Bosnian Serb wartime leader Radovan Karadzic ...

Judges at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) last month appointed London-based barrister Richard Harvey as Karadzic's legal counsel ...

The raid was conducted on Wednesday, a day before chief U.N. war crimes prosecutor Serge Brammertz presents a report to the Security Council about Serbia's cooperation with his office. The arrest of Mladic, indicted by the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague for genocide over the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of 8,000 Muslims and the siege of Sarajevo, is seen as key for Serbia's bid to join the European ...

AMSTERDAM (Reuters) - Radovan Karadzic will challenge the decision by war crimes judges to appoint him a defense lawyer in a trial in which the former Bosnian Serb leader is representing himself, his legal adviser said on Thursday. Judges at the International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia last month appointed London-based barrister Richard Harvey as Karadzic's legal counsel after he boycotted the trial. The court denied Karadzic's request to appeal that decision. If Karadzic continues to boycott the trial, he will forfeit his right to self-representation and the appointed lawyer will take over, the court said. "Karadzic will file a motion challenging the ...
