Although like everyone else I am pleased Bernie Madoff is in jail—I just can't figure out why he plead guilty at this point. There is a report that he is suffering from terminal prostrate cancer ---but if anything, that is a reason to drag the proceedings out. He might not have wanted to rat out his wife, kids and whoever (which is a dubious assumption considering who we are discussing). But until he was convicted, he had a Fifth Amendment Right to keep his mouth shut—that may no longer exist as the investigation into the conspiracy continues—though the threat of contempt will not matter ...
