The following is from Shannon's HS coach, Andy Chan. I thought I’d share some of the excitement we’re feeling at Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory (SHCP) about Shannon Rowbury (class of 2002) not only qualifying for the 2008 Olympic team but winning the US Olympic Trials in the 1500 meters. I was lucky enough to be a first year head coach at SHCP when Shannon came in as a freshmen. Almost 10 years later we are still very close. The last two months have just been filled with excitement. My wife, Malinda, and I got married last summer but didn’t take a honeymoon then, deciding ... Read Full Story

Shannon Rowbury Olympian I am a close friend of the Rowbury's. For the past few weeks, Shannon has been working on the development of her new website and I have offered to help her out by searching the archives for content and by contacting your site to announce that the [ http://www.shannonrowbury.com/ ] www.shannonrowbury.com website has been launched. Some of the features of Shannon's website include: • Shannon plans to do blogs on her website from her i phone to share her adventure in Beijing with anyone who may be interested (assuming the technology will allow this in Beijing). • • • We plan ... Hi Everyone, I can't believe we're here in China. This trip has always seemed so far away. It's been months and months of talking about this trip. When it started years ago, it was just an idea. Then in January, when we booked the trip, it was a great honeymoon with the possibility that Shannon would make the Olympic team (she was “an underdog trying to sneak in" at that point). In May when she ran 4:01, things changed and there was now a good chance she would make it. But even when she qualified at the Trials on July 6, it didn't really ... Read Full Story

Today, we are very lucky to hear from one of the most underrated coaches in the bay area, Sacred Heart Cathedral coach, Andy Chan. He's been very fortunate to coach some outstanding individuals at SHC who qualified for the CA XC state meet including Michelle Gallagher and Shannon Rowbury (more on them below). Michelle's mom, Margaret, is very familiar to the cross country and track and field communities through the terrific pictures she takes during each season. Andy has also coached some outstanding teams at SHC with several state meet qualifiers (Girls '98, '99 and '01 teams/Boys '05 team). You will definitely know when ... Read Full Story

Wow! Talk about a memorable day! I assume most of you already know the good news that Shannon Rowbury won the bronze medal in the women's 1500 at the IAAF World Championships here in Berlin. It was a roller coaster of emotions. First there was her fall on Tuesday in the first round when she did not qualify and we had to wait some anxious hours until we got confirmation that she was advanced to the semi-final on appeal. Today there was another fall...but I am getting ahead of myself. For the first 2 1/2 laps there was a lot of shoving but Shannon ... Read Full Story

What matters most is the sense of pride in accomplishing a goal I had worked so long towards and the joy of sharing that success with the people that helped me to achieve it.
