That was the rumor going around this week, when sources told ESPN the basketball legend was expected to announce he was joining the team Wednesday morning.

Now it's Wednesday afternoon, and there's still no word from either camp on whether the deal has gone through.

Insiders say they have signed a contract for an unknown length of time, but O'Neal's been looking for a two-year deal. He's also expected to be playing for at least $1.4 million annually.

Apparently Shaq and Celtics coach Doc Rivers met last month, when the Celtics and the Atlanta Hawks were the two teams vying for O'Neal. Shaq was more interested in the Celtics because he thinks they could bring him to his fifth NBA championship.
