Seattle Seahawks running back Julius Jones fractured a rib during the first quarter of a 31-20 loss to the Arizona Cardinals Sunday.  

Greg Knapp was having a San Francisco flashback. The former assistant to Steve Mariucci and George Seifert thought he was coaching another one of Steve Young's aerial circuses with the old 49ers. Seattle's first-year offensive coordinator was dutifully trying to follow last weekend's plan for the Seahawks to run the ball as much as throw it.

The Edgerrin James experiment in Seattle is over. The struggling Seahawks cut ties with James on Tuesday, releasing the backup running back who never provided the pop Seattle hoped to get when it signed the 31-year-old in late August. James' release was one of a handful of moves Seattle made two days after a lackluster 38-17 loss that dropped the Seahawks to 2-5.  

For someone who's never carried the ball in a regular season game, the Seattle Seahawks are sure enamored with running back Louis Rankin. To the point where the NFL's active rushing leader, Edgerrin James, was sent away earlier this week to see if Rankin could provide a missing jolt for Seattle's struggling run game.  

Dynamic wide receiver Calvin Johnson is in the Detroit Lions' starting lineup for the first time in almost a month. Coach Jim Schwartz had said his "special" target would be a game-time decision Sunday against the Seahawks. He is active for the first time since he injured his right knee on Oct.  

Arizona Cardinals starting linebackers Gerald Hayes and Chike Okeafor were inactive for Sunday's game against the Seattle Seahawks. Both had back injuries. Inside linebacker Hayes missed his second straight game, again replaced by Ali Highsmith. Bertrand Berry replaced Okeafor at outside linebacker.  

Sean Locklear will start at left tackle for the Seahawks in Sunday's key divisional game at Arizona. Locklear has been out since he sustained a high right ankle sprain midway through the second game of the season, Sept. 20 at San Francisco. Seattle has gone through five left tackles this season. Six-time All-Pro Walter Jones was supposed to make it back from major knee surgery but didn't and...  

His ribs aren't fully healed. He couldn't throw deep passes last week, and he often threw almost sidearm because his shoulder ached. Yet Matt Hasselbeck says his health is "the best it's been" since he fractured ribs on Sept. 20 at San Francisco. "Way better than last week. Seahawks defensive back Roy Lewis says he is appealing a $5,000 fine from the league for a late hit. Lewis said Thursday he was docked for hitting Detroit's Derrick Williams out of bounds at the end of a kickoff return Sunday. He was penalized with a personal foul. Lewis says teammate Lance Laury was also fined $5,000 by the NFL for a late hit on the same play.  

The Seattle Seahawks have added defensive end Derek Walker to their active roster and released wide receiver Mike Hass. Walker made Seattle's opening day roster out of training camp, but was inactive in his only game this season on the active roster. He was released and signed to the practice squad on Sept.  

Just when the Seahawks were feeling good about one of their few positive Sundays this shaky season, Monday arrived. Seattle (3-5) rallied from 17-0 down at home Sunday, then needed Matt Hasselbeck's record-setting passing day to beat the lowly Detroit Lions.
