Olympic gymnastics champion won't be at worlds

Olympic champion Nastia Liukin won't be competing at the world gymnastics championships in October.

Liukin took herself out of the mix for the U.S. team on Monday, saying she needs more time to get in shape. Liukin has spent much of the past year on the road, and returned to competition only in late July. She did one event at the national championships two weeks ago, finishing fourth on balance beam.

The worlds are Oct. 12-18 in London. The first of two training camps that will be used to determine the U.S. team begins next week.

Liukin insists her decision is not the end of her competitive gymnastics career. She says she's still focused on the London Olympics and has more to accomplish.
