The San Francisco 49ers didn't waste any time.
With Walt Harris likely out for the season after tearing his ACL at yesterday's practice, the Niners will host cornerback Dre' Bly on Thursday , according to Matt Maiocco of the Press Democrat .
Bly, who has been to two Pro Bowls, was released by the Denver Broncos this off-season .
The question is can the Niners and Bly, who has averaged $6.5 million per year over the past six seasons, agree on dollars and cents.

Despite the bad economy, the 49ers are looking to be major players once the NFL free agency period begins tonight at 9:01 p.m. (Pacific). According to the “San Francisco Chronicle,” the 49ers are about 25-million dollars under the expected 2009 salary cap of 123-million dollars.

The Sacramento Bee reports that the Niners are going to convert cornerback Reggie Smith into a safety. Here is the report:
The 49ers’ starting cornerbacks this season will be Nate Clements and Walt Harris. Both Shawntae Spencer and Tarell Brown were nursing injuries as the 49ers began their minicamp Friday while Reggie Smith is being converted into a safety. The backups for the minicamp were Marcus Hudson and Allen Rossum, the team’s return specialist.
