The Bengals continually shot themselves in the foot offensively in the first half.  It started with Shayne Graham missing a 32-yard field goal partially because of another bad snap by Brad St. Louis.  Carson Palmer had a pass intercepted by Ed Reed and returned for a touchdown.  With the Bengals driving near the end of the first half, Reed stripped the ball from Chad Ochocinco and the Ravens recovered the fumble. St. Louis spent his entire 10-year career with Cincinnati (4-1), which drafted him in the seventh round in 2000. He was reliable until this season, when he repeatedly had problems getting the ball to new holder Kevin Huber.

The Bengals have added to their depth at linebacker by promoting rookie Dan Skuta from their practice squad. Cincinnati waived cornerback Geoffrey Pope, a second-year player from Howard who appeared in the first four games. Skuta signed with the Bengals on April 30 as an undrafted free agent from Grand Valley State.  

When Joe Flacco threw deep down the left side, Leon Hall was there to intercept. When the Ravens quarterback tried to go deep again, Johnathan Joseph picked it off. Nice symmetry. The Cincinnati Bengals' first-round draft picks have grown into one of the better cornerback tandems in the NFL, one reason why the defense is on the rise.
