Preview: Chelsea v. Sheffield United

Chelsea v. Sheffield United

Saturday 17th March 15:00pm

Last time around at Stamford Bridge:

Premiership 07/05/94 Chelsea 3 - 2 Sheffield United

(Sheffield United relegated to Division One) Attendance: 21782

Team news:

The Blades welcome back Michael Tonge and Nick Montgomery from one match suspensions as the team look to steal points off a Chelsea team going all out to make up the points deficit on Manchester United. Chris Lucketti is still sidelined with the foot injury sustained at Anfield while Mikele Leigertwood and Matt Kilgallon continue to work on their fitness.

Jose Mourinho's Chelsea side may have to do without Michael Essien following a knee injury but there are no new injury concerns for the London side.

Referee:

Chris Foy from Merseyside has only met the Blades once this year, officiating the New Year’s Day match against Middlesbrough at the Riverside. The Blades suffered a 3-1 defeat and both earned and conceded a penalty. Rob Hulse was the only Blades player to pick up a booking in that game.

Foy has taken charge of two Chelsea matches this season, both resulting in victories for the London club – beating Newcastle 1-0 at St James’ Park in December and winning 3-0 against Middlesbrough at Stamford Bridge a month ago. Khalid Boulahrouz and Paulo Ferreira were booked in the first fixture while Chelsea escaped any cards at the Bridge.

In total, Chris Foy has refereed 33 games – producing 98 yellow cards and 5 reds.

Chelsea’s last starting line up v. Manchester City in the Premiership, winning 1-0 at the City of Manchester Stadium:

Petr Cech, Geremi, Ricardo Carvalho, John Terry, Ashley Cole, Arjen Robben (Shaun Wright-Phillips 77), Michael Ballack, Frank Lampard, Claude Makelele (Lassana Diarra 89), Salomon Kalou, Didier Drogba. Unused subs: Carlo Cudicini, Andrei Shevchenko, Khalid Boulahrouz.
