Trial set for Baltimore mayor in corruption case
Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon is set to go to trial in September on charges she stole gift cards intended for needy families and used them for a holiday shopping spree.
On Tuesday, a judge scheduled Dixon's trial for Sept. 8 on charges of theft, perjury and misconduct in office.
Dixon, a Democrat, and two others were charged after a corruption investigation that lasted nearly three years.
The mayor also is accused of lying about gifts from a developer. The developer, Ronald Lipscomb, is charged in a separate case with bribing City Councilwoman Helen Holton.
Dixon has denied wrongdoing in the case.
According to the indictment, Dixon used gift cards at a variety of stores after receiving them under the guise they would be given to needy families.
