Some charges against Baltimore mayor dismissed
A judge has dismissed some of the charges against Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon and all charges against a councilwoman indicted in a probe of city finances.
Judge Dennis M. Sweeney agreed Thursday with a defense motion that Dixon and Councilwoman Helen Holton enjoy legislative immunity from charges for acts conducted in office.
Dixon attorney Dale P. Kelberman said four perjury charges and one misconduct charge against Dixon were dismissed and seven theft, misappropriation and misconduct charges against the mayor remain because immunity did not cover the evidence in those counts.
The mayor is accused of stealing gift cards intended for needy families and failing to disclose the cards as gifts. Prosecutors said Holton took a bribe from a developer.
