Director Michael Bay plans a fresh take on shape-shifting robots with the fourth installment in his "Transformers" franchise. The robots will now be the ones in cutoffs, washing expensive cars in slow-motion. Sorry ... that got weird, didn't it?  

His three-picture contract was signed when he was a barely known teenager, but the franchise presented all kinds of options to him, from the not-so-good (franchise-ruiner Mutt Williams in Indiana Jones 4 ... major roles. Evan Rachel Wood ...

While star Shia LaBeouf won't be back, the director Michael Bay will. Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura spoke recently with MTV, and confirmed what had been suspected for some time now, that director Michael Bay would be returning for the next installment.

“Michael has been working on 'Pain and Gain' for a number ... No word though if Shia LaBeouf's Sam Witwicky will return for more robot mayhem. Paramount will release the film on June 29, 2014.

We first reported on The Necessary Death of Charlie Countryman almost a year ago when Shia LaBeouf was reportedly attached to the project. The Transformers star is still starring as the title character and now has a director to work with. Fredrik Bond, a director of numerous commercials, will be directing the “romantic actioner” from screenwriter Matt Drake (Project X). Another commercials director, Dante Ariola, had previously been attached...  

Movie projects sometimes have strange, curious lives, going through casting changes and riding the tides of the pulse of the industry in effort to get made. And the upcoming "The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman" is a good example of that. The 2007 Black List script by Matt Drake ("Project X") first found a star in Shia LaBeouf way back in 2010, but nearly a year passed, and a new brunette hunk in Zac Efron was attached to the lead. Ads director Fredrik Bond is on board to shoot Matt Drake's script, a pulpy romance which finds LaBeouf as the titular lead. Heading to Budapest to clear his head after his mother dies of cancer, he meets a mysterious Hungarian girl and falls for her.
