Grey's Anatomy cr eator Shona Rhimes. Shona Rhimes is talked to Entertainment Weekly about the shocking conclusion to Grey's Anatomy, including whether some characters will survive or not. The summer can be over fast enough! From Entertainment Weekly : Rumors have been swirling all year that Katherine and TR wanted off the show. The season ends with both their characters' lives hanging in the balance. Purely coincidental? SHONDA RHIMES: I don't think there are any coincidences. Yes indeed, Denny’s coming back. The extended return of Izzie’s late fiancé drew cries of protest from many Grey’s Anatomy fans last fall, but he’s an important part of the story that creator Shonda Rhimes wants to tell. “We’re heading on a journey,” Rhimes says. Viewers “are in the middle and don’t have a map, so they can feel lost. But I know where we’re going. For me, it’s about looking at the larger picture.” Despite a few hairpin turns, Rhimes has shown good directional sense operating two series, the fifth-season drama Grey’s (ABC, tonight, 9 ET/PT) — which boasts some of TV’s most ... Medical formula … (from left) Chris Lowell, KaDee Strickland, Amy Brenneman, Tim Daly, Audra McDonald, Kate Walsh, Paul Adelstein and Taye Diggs. When a show is as successful as Grey’s Anatomy (it averaged 16.1 million viewers in its fourth season on America’s ABC network), you expect pressure to produce a spin-off. But Betsy Beers, who is executive producer of the show with creator and writer Shonda Rhimes, denies this was the case. “The network [ABC] and the studio [Disney ABC] were both really chilled about it and were happy for us to focus all our energy on Grey’s Anatomy ,” she says. So what ... Read Full Story

Shonda Rhimes sat down with TV Guide to answer a great many questions about herself and Grey’s Anatomy. If you’re only looking for spoilers, this is not the interview to read, as there’s zero in the way of Grey’s Anatomy scoops. But if you’re curious about the executive director herself, what shows have inspired her (Buffy, The West Wing), how she began as a screenwriter, how Callie and Arizona came about, how the cast ended up being so...

Love it or hate it, Grey’s Anatomy changed television. That may seem an overstatement, since Grey’s isn’t in the category of the dramas usually referred to as transformational — The Sopranos, Mad Men or Six Feet Under, for example. But in terms of pop culture, the influence of the show is obvious every time someone says, “Seriously?” or refers to an essential part of the body as the “va-jay-jay.” Sure, Grey’s often is infuriating, but...
