Sisterhood

A tale of two women who met in college, became student activists, and then for more than three decades, maintained the connection that started back when they were young radicals.

SUNDAY SALON -- Reflections

I'm not sure who started the "Sunday Salon." I didn't see any links to an original creator at the sites where I noticed this colorful logo. I visited Jenny's Sunday Salon at TAKE ME AWAY, and popped in to peek at Alyce's "salon" AT HOME WITH BOOKS. Then I took a gander on over to BILBIOPHILE BY THE SEA. From what I've gathered so far, it looks like a place to reflect and muse upon the week past and ponder the week ahead—in terms of books. A little over a week ago, I "organized" my TBR stack... MY "NING" ADVENTURES

I found this image on the Internet, of course. I've seen it on various sites, including blogs. A few months ago, I only had one blog and one website. I also dabbled on the Amazon Profile pages and the Goodreads site, accumulating "friends," reviewing books, and joining groups. Oh, and I had a My Space page, but I didn't visit it very often. Then suddenly, like a cloud burst on a summer day, I was bombarded with invitations to these new "social networks." It began with one—someone at... Read Full Story

REFLECTIONS OF AN ARTIST -- An Excerpt from "Miles to Go"

When Rainbow closed the shop for the day, she solemnly put on her cape and trudged to the car. Driving home, she reflected on the past few months and had to admit to herself, finally, that business had sloughed off considerably. Her second shop in Auburn was doing a little better; the location there seemed to draw in tourists on their way north to Lake Tahoe and Reno. They seemed to find the little foothill community charming and the arts and crafts inventory had some draw for those types... Read Full Story

SUPER COMMENTER AWARD!

Here I am, with egg on my face! Sheila sent me a comment, telling me and a few others that we had won this "Super Commenter Award," and while I went to the section of her blog and saw her COMMENT, I didn't realize that I was supposed to "pick" up the award myself! I'm still learning how this whole blogging community thing works. So, while I thanked you in the remarks section, Sheila ( Journey Through Books ), I am now officially thanking you in this blog! And I'm going to proudly post this... Read Full Story

Miles to Go

My latest novel, entitled "Miles to Go", was actually the first one I wrote. I began it in the eighties, without a title; then in 2000, I picked it up, started all over again, with different character names, but with the same concept: the primary character is a woman who lived through the sixties and seventies, suffered loss and tragedy over the years, but who triumphed because of her sisterhood connections. The title came from a Robert Frost poem... "The woods are lovely, dark and deep, But... Read Full Story

Consciousness-Raising

You may find many definitions for "sisterhood", depending on your situation. For those of us who were young in the seventies, that term came to connote a lot more than might be readily apparent.  After all, the resurrection of the feminist movement, which coincided in the early sixties with Betty Friedan's book "The Feminine Mystique", also led to a movement in the seventies.  Consciousness-raising groups sprang up, and the sisterhood connection was born (or reborn). Remembering my first... Read Full Story
