Don't Try And Be Somebody Else

All successful business leaders have managed to develop a unique identity for themselves.

An identity which really makes them noticeably in a crowd, an identity that is totally synonymous with who they are and what they represent.

Business leaders like Warren Buffett, Bill Gates, Richard Branson, Steve Jobs, Michael Dell, Jack Welch and Phil Knight. Most of us can bring to mind many other successful business leaders who have become truly famous because of their unique identity.

An identity that is specific to you as a business leader is a pre-requisite for establishing yourself as a person to be respected and for you to make your mark in your chosen business endeavour.

You need an identity that expresses your principles, your values and your abilities, if you want it to be able to make an impact in the huge arena that is the world of business.

But just remember that the identity must be you, so be yourself, don’t try and be somebody else.

Imitating other business leaders may help you to do some things better within your business, but it will not in any way help or guide you to have more success in your business, or for you to be a successful business leader.

To help you to develop your unique identity, ask yourself these really searching questions and make sure that you give yourself honest and complete answers.

What is it that makes you who you are? (principles, values, abilities)

Why do you want to be a successful business leader?

Why are you in business?

What do you want to achieve?

Take a few minutes to think about each question and fully understand its meaning, then when you have given yourself an answer to it, take another few minutes to evaluate your answer.

Are you really satisfied with the honesty and completeness of your answers? If you say yes, then you have progressed a lot closer to developing your own unique identity. Refine it and start to use it.
