Kristen Kreuk, who played Lana Lang for all ten seasons of The CW’s Smallville, has been cast in another show for the network, Beauty and the Beast. Deadline reported Thursday that Kreuk has been cast as the female lead in the show’s pilot.

While it’s looking like Emma Watson will be taking on the part of the Beauty in what may very well be the next big screen adaptation of the classic story Beauty and the Beast, The CW’s reboot of the ’80’s small screen take on the story now has its own Beauty, and what a beauty she is. As someone who has seen every episode of "Smallville," I'm allowed to say this: the show got pretty terrible in its final days, in large part due to the departure of Michael Rosenbaum (aka Lex Luthor) from the series. Rosenbaum also has ties to other superhero properties, providing voice work for animated series like "Justice League," "Static Shock," and "Batman Beyond." But it looks like he's separating himself from genre work for the time...

Just because Smallville ended its run as a TV show doesn't mean the story has to come to a complete end. Some fans may have hoped to see Tom Welling and the rest of the cast transition to the big screen, but the Man of Steel film in the works will be an entire reboot of the Superman saga. Instead, Smallville will continue in comic book form as DC Comics gives us "Season 11," a depiction of what would have transpired if the show had continued...

Based on how things turned out with the "Big Bads" of Seasons 9 and 10 of Smallville, perhaps they should have been switched. General Zod proved to be a very compelling and effective villain in making Clark think hard about his Kryptonian side, while providing a nemesis worthy of Superman.
