Municipal officials in Anchorage have pulled the plug on their famous giant snowman, known as Snowzilla. Snowzilla was first built in 2005 and rose 16 feet. The giant snow structure gained popularity with international photographers and camera crews. Every succeeding year the snowman was built higher, until locals complained about the large number of cars full of people that would come to see Snowzilla. City officials now deemed Snowzilla a public nuisance and safety hazard. Builders were ordered to stop a few weeks ago leaving Snowzilla as a pile of snowy rubble. Snowzilla was quite an attraction in Anchorage with people waiting in line to get a picture with the colossus snowman. Unfortunately, Snowzilla is no longer with us and Anchorage must say bye-bye to our unofficial attraction. In 2005, Mr. Billy Powers did what many people like to do when the snow falls, he built a snowman. The large snowman did what many snowmen do when it warms up after a snowfall, he began to melt. Snowzilla Meet Snowzilla, 25 foot tall snowman in front lawn of Billy Powers. With the help of his seven kids, who collected snow from neighbors' yards, Powers has created this snowman on steroids for the last three years. "Have you seen him?" ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The giant snowman an Anchorage, Alaska, man has created annually since 2005, has reappeared despite a city ban but he says he doesn't know who made it. Billy Powers told the Anchorage Daily News the 25-foot Snowzilla, complete with hat and carrot nose, went up in defiance of a stop-work order. ANCHORAGE, Alaska, Dec. 27 (UPI) -- A group of protesting snowmen carrying signs like Snowpeople have rights made a brief appearance at city hall in Anchorage, Alaska, this week. The 3-foot-high snowmen appeared Christmas Day, the Anchorage Daily News reported. By Friday morning, they had been removed and their signs placed in the trash.
