This zine explores all the various fun (and not so fun) aspects of being or becoming a disc jockey who uses computer technology. Whether you are a seasoned professional or the freshest newbie, technology is constantly changing and it takes effort to stay current with the latest trends. Whether you are a music-only DJ or you are interested in learning more about adding karaoke, music videos, intelligent DMX lighting control or a host of other applications, software packages, hardware controllers, etc. - where do you turn for an honest, no BS assessment? Whether you are a Club DJ or a Mobile DJ, the question is no longer a matter of "IF" you will use a computer eventually, rather it is a question of when!
CPS Summit - Episode 4
After a long day of seminars and presenting two of them myself, it was getting late in the day and I was starting to seriously think about getting some dinner. Many of those folks that I talked to late in the afternoon were looking forward to making some plans for dinner too. But we still had one more thing on the schedule with Professor Jam and Dr. Drax hosting an “open mic” style question and answer session for whatever was foremost on people’s minds. But with things winding down in the Tricerasoft room as well, a growing group of us were looking forward to getting our party on!
Although food was pretty high on the priority list for a good number of folks, everyone was definitely looking forward to heading over to Joe’s that evening to le off some steam. We made arrangements to have one of the hotel shuttles take on over to the bar as soon as the final session finished up. Soon enough a large group of us all piled into the hotel shuttle bus and we were on our way to get some dinner. And with the restaurant/bar so close by, in less than a few minutes we were there. The really great thing was that we practically had the place to ourselves, which I am also sure that the staff were glad to see such a large group of us coming in on probably their slowest night of the week.
Soon enough we were all eating and busily sharing stories. Of course it did not take very long for most of us to start laughing and joking around. After some fun with that and about the time that everyone was finishing up their meals, we start sharing stories of the funny, the strange and the downright weird. Although I have to say that Wayne’s story about the “dark room” and having to get dressed up like King Tut had me rolling. Garry Lee had some great stories as well as did Rob - who also happens to be just about the most energetic person I have ever met - think squirrel on a double cappuccino! Come to think of it, Rob’s story about getting stopped by the police at gun point and getting accused of stealing his own DJ gear had to one of the best stories I heard that evening! On the other hand, a few people told me that my story about how “break dancing” at a wedding reception can be bad for your health, had them peeing their pants too.
But as with all good things, the time to leave came along all too soon and we all boarded the shuttle to go back to the hotel. We were still laughing and talking the whole two minute ride back. In fact we were having such a great time that we all hung out in the lobby for several hours just talking. The this dude came over and sat down to start hitting on the same woman that had my head spinning the whole day. Later on Garry was ribbing me about the look that must have been on my face when the dude started getting rude with her. However, working bar gigs just about every night of the week for the past, she was used to drunks and handled herself pretty well - and I didn’t have to dump him on his neck.
Anyway, time really does fly when you are having fun and the hours slipped past rather quickly. Before we knew it, it was 1AM and more than a handful of us needed to get up early the next day to catch flights home. We said our good-nights and our goodbyes, each of us heading to our own rooms to catch some much needed sleep before heading for home.
