When Rush Limbaugh called the U.S. health care system "just dandy" based on his experiences in a Hawaii hospital, he must not have realized that Hawaii is the closest thing the United States has to socialized medicine, according to the Service Employees International Union. "We're thrilled to hear that Limbaugh appreciates Hawaii's exemplary health care system," the union stated. "Hawaii is a shining example of progressive health care reform."

(Kevin Price) - Besides the occasional Republican either voting for socialized medicine or preventing a filibuster of it, the guilt of the association with the proposal that passed the Senate and the GOP is very deep. In fact the recent bill, without the public option (but will force people into public care) looks increasingly like the failed experiment of Massachusetts...

Editor's note: This story, originally appearing on August 20, 2009, is reprinted here as part of our Best Crosscuts of 2009 series. There is a lot of talk of “socialized medicine” in the current political debate about health care. Some politicians assert that the Obama Administration and the Congressional Democrats want to destroy the US health care system and replace it with something on the lines of the British National Health Service. I...

The only real chance of defeating the health care legislation came when the bill was lacking a majority of votes for passage in the House. A lot is being said and written about why national health care legislation is becoming a reality. The simple fact, available for all to see, is that the U.S. Catholic Bishops ensured passage of the bill in the House, enabling the Senate to move forward with its version.

Reliably on-message even from beyond the grave, the voice of Ronald Reagan has recently been resurrected by Rush Limbaugh to denounce government-sponsored health insurance, chiefly because the tape of Reagan's talk repeatedly invokes the smear of the day, "socialized medicine."

Zomblog has written the real, very un-PC reasons for Why America Hates Universal Health Care, and why you should too. If the bill for your foolishness shows up in the form of higher taxes on me, then I unwillingly start to care what you do. And, trust me on this, you don’t want me turning my heartless judgmental eye on your foolish lifestyle. Because I’d have no qualms criticizing half the stuff you do.Do you want that? No. Do I want that? No...

(Wes Vernon) - Almost any other presidency would by embarrassed by a report from within its own administration that exposes its number one legislative priority as an anti-family fraud. But not the Obama White House. Its response to a negative study of its Health "Care" bill resembles Al Gore's reaction to contradictions to the "sky-is-falling" hysteria over "man-made Global Warming": Ignore it and hope it goes away...

That's the gist of this article on AOL News. Writes Andrea Stone: "Never mind that the public debate and advocacy ads depict nightmare scenarios of "government bureaucrats" denying medical care, the recent controversy over breast cancer screening being only the latest. Taxpayers already cover nearly half of the nation's health care spending." the question, of course, is whether we want to expand that government control of...

There might be an argument for taking care of the old and the poor. That argument had been won by liberals over 40 years ago, when medicare and medicaid was passed into law by the "Great society" Johnson administration. I would have thought that that argument would also be lost, as both programs, especially medicare, are disasters.  Would you personally trust your money to the government to make important medical decisions for you? Would you...
