A community portal about Solar cells with blogs, videos, and photos. According to Wikipedia.org: A solar cell is a device that converts photons from the sun into electricity. In general, a solar cell that includes both solar and nonsolar sources of light is termed a photovoltaic cell. Fundamentally, the device needs to fulfill only two functions: photogeneration of charge carriers in a light-absorbing material, and separation of the charge carriers to a conductive contact that will transmit the electricity. This conversion is called the photovoltaic effect, and the field of research related to solar cells is known as photovoltaics.

Professor Guillermo Bazan and a team of postgraduate researchers at UC Santa Barbara's Center for Polymers and Organic Solids (CPOS) have announced a major advance in the synthesis of organic polymers for plastic solar cells. Bazan's team reduced reaction time by 99%, from 48 hours to 30 minutes, and increased average molecular weight of the polymers by a factor of more than 3. The reduced reaction time effectively cuts production time for the organic polymers by nearly 50%, since reaction time and purification time are approximately equal in the production process, in both laboratory and commercial environments. The higher molecular weight of the polymers, ... Read Full Story

So-called thin-film photovoltaic devices are usually based on mixtures of elements other than silicon — most notably copper indium gallium selenide (CIGS) — applied in a thin layer to plastic, even organic, components. Using nanotechnology and advanced materials science, thin film is able to produce power with a fraction of the materials. Similar techniques are being tried using ultra thin layers of silicon on a glass substrate, reducing what is now a 250 - micrometer (um) - thick wafer to less than 20 um. Thin film also has the potential to be mass-produced for a fraction of the cost of mono-or polycrystalline silicon, because ... Read Full Story

1394 Industry Association (1394 Trade Association) executive director James Snider, said: "Symwave's FirePHY-800 will lead to a new generation of high-speed storage devices, providing consumers with a myriad of tangible benefits. We are very pleased to see Symwave to provide a robust and reliable high-speed 1394b firewire hard drive dock . Users of multimedia content demand is growing rapidly, requiring larger and faster external storage devices. " Many have a FireWire 800 (1394b) interface; consumer products have adopted FirePHY-800, such as external storage devices/chassis, hubs, repeaters, and card readers. It is also PC and Mac motherboards, PCI-Express interface card and Express Cards host the ... Read Full Story

Usually when we meet, we are all the side show PowerPoint presentations, while express their views. Person in charge while also recording the discussion to everyone for the timely revised and finalized, it is very hard. In fact, we can use wireless presenter trackball mouse to do "e-notes", you can show your presentation, while the content can be easily recorded in the slide. In this way, we both see the actual playback also capable of writing the record, and all work is done simultaneously. As the record content and presentation is an organic whole, and therefore the future of browsing and editing can be ... Read Full Story
