SongChannels.com recently obtained permission to use the fantastic songwriting tutorial videos from www.NextLevelGuitar. These helpful videos are under the Song Incubator section of the SongChannels site. In addition to Next Level Guitar’s great songwriting videos, they have a fantastic site teaching people how to play the guitar.
This is revolutionary era of information available to anyone who wants it. Back in the 1980’s I played with the guitar a bit and took a few lessons. It didn’t seem to come naturally. I was raised on the viola, a monotone instrument I found far more enjoyment playing. I thought because my father had played professional guitar that I could easily pick it up, but I just didn’t enjoy playing the instrument.
There’s nothing like playing with fine musicians in an orchestra. At a few summer music camps in California, I played with a few of today’s top string players when I was 13 I’ll never forget. One of them was Liane Mautner, who plays with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra and on several albums of famous singers. Another was Darius Campos, who was first chair violinist at the Merimblum Youth Orchestra (Hollywood, CA) when we were just 11 years old (LOL). The string world must be extremely small because I just discovered these two played together on Diana Krall’s Quiet Night’s album released this year. Even back when they were kids, these two string players were well on their way to sounding professional. Liane also played Natalie Cole’s album.
I think I’ll do another blog post on these two fine string players at a later time.
On a Personal Note:
All I can do is think about how much I wish I could have risen to the ocassion to be a professional string player. Only 2% of the string players make it a career to play with symphonic orchestras. Life would have been a breeze!
