INTERNATIONAL FRIENDLY 2008: SPAIN 1 - ITALY 0
SPAIN has defeated the current World Champions ITALY 1- 0,
thanks to a 78th min goal by Valencia CF forward DAVID VILLA.
The game was an International friendly encounter were both teams
used the occasion to test out new line-ups & players for the upcoming
Euro 2008 competition.

Italy as always are a tough nut to crack, as the 1º half showed
with Spain dominating & Italy using its experience & "know-how"
to counter-attack & cause some danger. The highlight was a Toni
header that went into the Spanish net but was disallowed due to the
off-side , & Spanish defender Puyol leaving due to injury. Apart from
that both sides had their strong teams on & were balanced throughout
the 45 mins
The 2º half saw the usual changes in both sides with Torres, Senna
& Silva giving way to Villa, L.Garcia & Riera for Spain. The "status-
quo" continued until a Cannavaro bad heading clearance fell to
DAVID VILLA who volleyed a brilliant ball into the Italian goal
as seen below.

That was it, an Italian mistake gave Spain the victory. The last point
of interest is that Arbeloa debuted for Spain in the 74th min.
The conclusion is that this was a friendly & Spain needs more games
to jell better as a team. However the signs a very positive & there
should be reigning optimism in the Spanish camp. It´s not everyday
that one can defeat Italy, who played their normal tight game & were
unlucky, although beaten.
