Director: Spike Lee “Pilgrim, we fought for this country too,” an elderly African-American postal worker and World War II veteran says shortly into Spike Lee’s newest epic, Miracle at St. Anna as he talks back to the ironically “black and white” film starring John Wayne playing on his small television set. Inside Man is one of the best modern thrillers of all time. I originally saw this movie with Tony Vahl in the movie theater and was blown away by it- I felt manic that night and was pumped, and this week I rewatched it with my wife; it held up. For those of you who missed this hidden gem (WHY? (tm) is it a hidden gem) it's a modern day version of Dog Day Afternoon , except with a TWIST ending. Spike Lee is usually a controversial director, but this movie is tame to his reputation in terms of... Read Full Story
For those who don't know, a war of directors began at the Cannes Film Festival. More specifically, a war of back and forth verbal bantering between Clint Eastwood and Spike Lee . So how did these two directors, who in normal circumstances probably don't really care that much about each other, get stuck in a very public duel? Last month at Cannes, Lee, while promoting his film Miracle at St. Anna, told reporters that if they had "any balls" they'd ask Eastwood why he didn't include any blacks... Read Full Story
Spike Lee has been in the spotlight a lot more since
Inside Man was released in early 2007. It's a well-made thriller, and it

Armed with perhaps more clout than he's had since
Malcolm X , Lee is taking a big step forward in his commercial filmmaking with... Read Full Story

And now having read four not so favorable reviews, I admit that some of their points are valid. Yes, "Miracle at St. Anna" could have been... Read Full Story
