fear1 ATS Fearless Predictions for the Year 2010This is a special edition of ATS Fearless Predictions in which our fearless prognosticators gaze into their crystal balls to give you a sneak peek at the year 2010.

- For the third consecutive season, the American IDOL finals will be between two male contestants. This year, Season 9 of IDOL will be won by Jeffrey David Goldford, a rock singer from Chicago who attended the University of Kansas. Goldford’s style is cut from the mold of the likes of Chris Daughtry and David Cook. The runner-up this season, will be a familar face, with a familar last name. Michael Castro, former IDOL contestant, Jason Castro’s brother will make it to the IDOL finals, only to come up short versus Goldford. Third place will go to soul singing female, Alex Nester – whose piano playing crooning will make her the early favorite.

- The 98th edition of the Australian Open for tennis will take place at Melbourne Park from January 18th to January 31st. This year look for Juan Martin Del Potro to take the crown on the Men’s side, solidifying him as the best player in men’s tennis currently. Kim Clijsters of Belgium, will win the Women’s draw, as Clijsters continues her amazing rise back to the top of the women’s rankings.

- The Arizona Cardinals will defeat the Baltimore Ravens in Super Bowl XLIV on February 7th in Miami. After upsetting the likes of New England, Indianapolis, and San Diego (all on the road) – the Ravens defense will finally meet its match versus the high powered offense of the Arizona Cardinals. Look for QB Kurt Warner to take home Super Bowl MVP honors, and make his retirement announcement shortly after holding up the Lombardi Trophy and telling everyone that he’s “going to Disney World!”

- Expect Taylor Swift to be the big winner at the Grammy Awards this year – taking home honors for Record of the Year with “You Belong With Me” and Album of the Year with “Fearless”. Other notable winners will be Maxwell – who’ll win Song of the Year for “Pretty Wings”. King of Leon – Best Rock Song (“Use Somebody”). Phoenix – Best Alternative Album (“Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix”). Beyonce – Best R&B Song (“Singles Ladies … Put a Ring On It”). Drake – Best Rap Song (“Best I Ever Had”). Jamey Johnson – Best Country Song (“High Cost of Living”)

- Lindsey Vonn will be the poster girl for this year’s 2010 Winter Olympics, as Vonn will take home three gold medals for skiing in Vancouver. Vonn’s face will be plastered everywhere – first spot the Wheaties cereal box. You’ll be seeing alot of Vonn this year. Other notable Olympic medal winners will be: Shaun White (gold), Gretchen Bleiler (gold), Hannah Teter (silver), Apolo Ohno (gold), US Women’s Ice Hockey (silver), Shani Davis (silver), Lindsey Jacobellis (gold)

- The 82nd Academy Awards will be held on March 7th at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, California. The film “Precious” will take home the night’s biggest honor of Best Picture, and the flim will be celebrate with the Best Supporting Actress winner, Mo’nique. Viggo Mortensen will win the Best Actor award for his performance in “The Road”. Abbie Cornish will take home the Best Actress award for her performance in “Bright Star”. Christophe Waltz will win Best Supporting Actor for his performance in the Tarantino film “Inglourious Bastards”.

- The 2010 Men’s NCAA Basketball Championships in Indianapolis will come down to the Final Four of Texas, Kansas, Michigan State, and Dayton. Texas will meet Michigan State in the Finals – and the Longhorns will leave no doubts to who the best team in the country is – as Texas will defeat the Spartans by the score of 85-71 on April 5th.

- Australian Adam Scott will win this year’s (in April) Masters Golf Tournament at Augusta National in Georgia. Scott who really struggle in 2009, will find his stroke just in time to capture his first green jacket – and his first win in a major.

- The Vancouver Canucks will defeat the New York Rangers in the Stanley Cup Finals this year. Despite both teams being mid-range seeds – expect both the Canucks and Rangers to get hot late in the season, and make the push to reach the finals. The Canucks will take the Rangers out in six games.

- On April 22nd at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, Nebraska DL Ndamukong Suh will be the first player selected in the 2010 NFL Draft, as the St Louis Rams choose the Defensive Lineman despite having a glaring need for a Quarterback.

- The 136th running of the Kentucky Derby will be run at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky on May 8th. This year’s Run for the Roses will be won by James Jerkens trained Afleet Express based out of the New York. Afleet Express will return $18.00 to win – as one of the favorites following his big win the Wood Memorial earlier in the season. Look for morning line race favorite Buddy’s Saint, trained by Bruce Levine, to finish third, just a length behind 2nd place finisher, Bob Baffert’s Tiz Chrome.

- The 135th running of the Preakness Stakes will be run at Pimlico Race Course in Baltimore, Maryland on May 22nd. This year’s Run for the Black Eyed Susans will be won by Richard Dutrow trained D’Funnybone based out of New York. D’Funnybone, who’ll skip the Kentucky Derby, will bounce back nicely from an impressive Peter Pan Stakes victory, to wire the field at Old Hilltop. Derby winner, Afleet Express will finish off the board, as two Bob Baffert trained horses will complete the trifecta, Derby runner-up Tiz Chrome will place second, and Lookin at Lucky will finish third.

- The 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes will be run at Belmont Park in Elmont, New York on June 12th. This year’s winner will be Kenneth McPeek trained Carrington Village. Carrington Village will skip both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness Stakes – just to focus in on winning the Belmont Stakes. McPeek will point this three year gelding to the Belmont as Carrington Village races lightly throughout the early part of the season, healing from a cracked shin. Breeders Cup Juvenile winner Vale of York will finish second, and Preakness winner D’Funnybone will complete the trifecta.

- This year’s French Open Championships at Roland Garros in Paris will take place at the end of May. This year, the men’s draw will be won by Juan Martin Del Potro, whom will take over the #1 Ranking in the world by this time. The women’s draw will be won by Serena Williams, who will battle through a lingering thigh injury to win her 12 Grand Slam singles title.

- The Cleveland Cavaliers will defeat the Los Angeles Clippers in this year’s NBA Finals. Yes, the Los Angeles Clippers. Lebron James will win the NBA Finals MVP and get the city of Cleveland an NBA title the year before he leaves for Brooklyn – as James will join the New Jersey Nets after this season ends. The Clippers will come into the playoffs as the 7th seed in the Western Conference, but will play spirited basketball, led by PG Baron Davis – who’ll average almost a triple-double throughout the playoffs.

- In June, The Washington Nationals will select Bryce Harper a catcher from Las Vegas, the first pick in this year’s Major League Baseball draft. This will be the second consecutive year the Washington Nationals selected pitcher Stephen Strasburg #1 in 2009.

- England will defeat Spain in the Finals of 19th FIFA World Cup of soccer in South Africa in the June of this year. Expect Peter Crouch to continue his monstrous year, by leading not only England, but the entire World Cup pool in goals scored.

- American Hunter Mahan will win his first major championship of his career in June at the US Open Championships at Pebble Beach in California. Mahan will hold off fellow American Tiger Woods in the final round, to capture the 110th US Open.

- On June 24th at the Theatre at Madison Square Garden in New York, the NBA Draft will take place. The first player selected in the draft will be PF Derrick Favors of Georgia Tech. The second player selected in the draft will be C Donatas Motiejunas from Lithuania, and the third player selected will be PG John Wall of Kentucky.

- The 124th Championships of Wimbledon will take place late June and early July on the outdoors grass courts at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club. The Club will be roaring this year, as local favorite Andy Murray will become the first Englishman to win the Championships since Fred Perry in 1938. Murray will defeat grass court & Wimbledon legend Roger Federer in the semi-finals to capture the title. Venus Williams will win her sixth Wimbledon title this year, as she outlasts Dinara Safina in the Finals.

- In July, The Open Championship returns to St Andrews in England, to crown the winner of the 139th British Open. This year, England’s own, Ross Fisher will capture the title by two strokes over American Steve Stricker and fellow Englishman Paul Casey.

- In August, the 131st running of the Travers Stakes will take place at Saratoga Park. Vale of York will turn around a subpar three year old campaign by taking the “Mid-Summer Derby”. Belmont winner Carrington Village will finish second, and Derby winner Afleet Express will come third.

- In August, American Sean O’Hair will win the 92nd PGA Championships at Straits Course of the Whistling Straits complex in Haven, Wisconsin. O’Hair will defeat fellow American Phil Mickelson and Australian Geoff Ogilvy by one stroke.

- In late August and early September, the US Open in Flushing Meadows, New York will crown its tennis champion for men and women. This year’s winners will be Juan Martin Del Potro in the Men’s draw (yes, 3 out of 4 majors) and Kim Clijsters in the Women’s draw (2 out of 4 majors).

- The Chicago White Sox will defeat the Chicago Cubs in this year’s World Series of Major League Baseball. Yes, an all Chicago World Series. 2010 Cy Young award runner-up (Felix Hernandez will win), Jake Peavy will be named the World Series MVP, as the White Sox beat the Cubs in five games.

- #83 Brian Vickers will end Jimmie Johnson’s four year reign as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion, as Vickers will dominate the series all year long by winning eight poles and getting to victory lane 7 times.
