Vitruvius and Sons for Barcode Building in St. Petersburg, Russia

This looks really nice. For the city of St. Petersburg the Russian office Vitruvius & Sons designed a building called ‘Shtrikh Kod’: Barcode. As the iconography suggests the building houses… shops, shops and shops.This barcode- building called ‘Shtrikh Kod’ is a visually interesting shopping center in St. Petersburg, designed by architects Vitruvius and Sons. Built in a large center next to the Volodarsky Bridge with gray public housing all around, the bright red barcode- building really livens up the place. The centre is located in a soviet residential area on the bank of the Neva River.

The architects liven up this space by introducing a splash of color. This emblem of retail is frequently used in contemporary art & design and Vitruvius and Sons studio used it in the context of architecture. This strange metal box painted in red with the dark vertical lines plays the role of a new monumental artwork that is open for all kinds interpretations.
