Fortunately for New York's holiday revelers, the sun came out Wednesday to warm parade participants and onlookers.

Unlike most city's the Big Apple doesn't hold its parade on the Saturday before the holiday. In true celebratory fashion, they give March 17th the reverence it deserves by holding their festivities on St. Patrick's Day itself.
New York's St. Patrick's Day parade has a long and proud history dating back to colonial days when Irish soldiers in the British military first held a parade on March 17, 1762. Here are some pictures from the 2010 parade.
