Stephen Colbert Declares Self Gov. of SC as Sanford Returns from Argentina

So it turns out Mark Sanford was not hiking the Appalachian Trail. He was in Argentina, and he'll hold a press conference to explain his absence Wednesday afternoon.

But while he stepped out of the state for 5 days, who was in charge? The governor left a power vacuum in the state that could only be filled by the bombastic late night comedian Stephen Colbert.

"Clearly, someone should be at the helm in South Carolina," Colbert told his audience. "He must be charismatic, decisive, and most importantly present. Therefore, I Stephen T. Colbert declare myself governor of South Carolina. Whoo! I have filled the power vacuum!"

Colbert donned a crown and dubbed himself governor, immediately calling off the search for Sanford and demanding all dogs to walk on their hind legs. Skip about 11 minutes into the show (the first dot) in the video below to see the segment.
