Denial still frames American perspective on sport doping, and we party on over our games. And that’s the sure sign nothing is forthcoming to reverse widespread use of anabolic steroids, human growth hormone, and more tissue-building substances in sport. Muscle doping’s progress continues unabated despite decades of testing, anti-steroid education, blockbuster scandal, public bitching, and politicians’ posing as saviors. Football, for example, can celebrate 50 years of anabolic steroids based on the 1959 case of a high-school team in Texas, juiced with Dianabol by a doctor, according to Dr. Charles Yesalis, epidemiologist and drug historian. Anabolic supplements are a controversial way that many athletes and bodybuilders build muscle. Often referred to as anabolic steroids, these supplements come in both natural and synthetic forms. Much of the controversy concerns the synthetic form because of the harmful side effects that body builders can suffer from. Natural anabolic steroids tend to be less harmful if used in moderation. Either way, anabolics promote cell growth and division, which is the basic principle behind body building because it causes larger muscles to be formed from smaller ones. Anabolic supplements have received a stigmatized reputation for a variety of reasons. When athletes and body builders ... Read Full Story
