Steven Adler (From VH1) Steven Adler rose to fame and fortune as the drummer for Guns N' Roses, but his drug addictions took nearly everything from him. Adler details his struggles with drugs in his new book, My Appetite for Destruction: Sex, and Drugs, and Guns N' Roses.
Previously, Steven Adler's struggles with drugs were documented the VH1 show Celebrity Rehab, in numerous interviews, and even in documents filed in a lawsuit where Adler sued his former band for cutting him out of royalties. As Steven put it in one radio interview, "The only reason I'm an expert on addiction is because I'm an addict."
Steven Adler was famously fired from Guns N' Roses in 1990 after repeatedly showing up to recording sessions inebriated to the point of being unable to perform, and missing gigs for drug treatment. Before firing him, the band made Adler sign a contract where he promised not to use drugs and to pay a $2,000 fine for every time he did.
Steven Adler has suffered two strokes as a result of drug abuse. The second one left him with a permanent speech impediment.
Adler joined Celebrity Rehab in 2008, where he finished the rehabilitation program despite his ongoing struggles. In the show's follow-up, Sober House, Adler was arrested shortly after entering the house after using heroin and marijuana.
These days, Adler claims he is taking recover one day at a time and after performing with former bandmate Slash for a track on his new album, the guitarist commented that he was "proud" Steven had come so far.
