Manila is the capital city of the Philipines, a
Country composed from islands in Southeast asia. Manila is both a city, and a larger urban region that contains Manila city as well as 16 different municipal localities. Manila town is the second biggest city in Philipines, after Quezon city. Quezon town is additionally part of Metro Manila, and is the previous capital of Philipines. If you view a detailed street map of Manila, you can see that these two cities form the center of Metro Manila.

Manila is a coastal port town, sitting on Manila Bay. It's the primary sea port of the Philipines. The majority of Manila town rests on alluvial deposits from the Pasig River, with some land that is reclaimed from the sea. Manila is in all ways a sea city, and its Pacific atmosphere and muggy air will make you think of that at all times.

Manila town has a total population of 1,660,713 all crammed into a tiny area of 38.55 square kilometers. This makes Mainla one of the most very populous vicinities on the planet with 43,079 folk per square kilometer. If we add all of Mtropolitan Manila the number of people balloons to a staggering 11,553,427. The overall population density of the Metro area , however , is much lower at 12,550 people per square kilometer. Compare that with Tokyo's population density of 10,087 folk per square kilometer. Since Tokyo isn't an individual city but instead a urban area like Metro Manila, the overall density of Tokyo and Manila are similar.

Metropolitan Manila really is massive, and each of its cities on its own constitutes a giant town. Manila town alone is divided into sixteen local districts. Each one of these 16 districts has its own individual features and flavours and are fun to explore and get a feel for. Intramuros is the location of old Manila, with a historical flavor. Binodo encompasses the Chinatown district. Ermita and Malate are trendy areas where many Western hostels and higher class shopping centers are found. And the areas of San Miguel and Pandacan are the location of the capital's government pavilions and the President's official place of residence. With all of these different and exotic local areas, it's easy to spend a few days exploring Manila before you move on.
