My New Job - Project Manager - Web Design Tips Book
Yup, just like the title says. I’ve managed to find a new line of work now doing project management for a web design company. I’m not sure how I’ll do there as the experience will be new to me, but it seems like I will finally be able to get a away from working 60 hours a week as a sales representative (my former job). So while I haven’t become super famous on the web from blogging. The skills I’ve learned to promote the blog which includes some SEO, Social Networking, Domains, Debugging etc played a pretty big part in acquiring the skills for a position in project management. I’m now familiar most of the terminology used in the web design field so being able to communicate the needs of a webmaster fits right in.
There’s some things all new employees get to learn at their new jobs, and that goes for me as well. They gave me a few books to read to brush up, and pointed out things that the firm I’m working at likes to point out to their potential customers. One of the books I’m reading I think is a very good read, and I think that other bloggers would be interested in it as well. Even though you might not be designing websites, you still usually design or maintain your own blog’s appearances.
The book is called Dont Make Me Think, by Steve Krug, and it is a very short read. What the book tells you is how people react to certain things on a website. It makes you think different on how a visitor to a site reacts to certain features of a page. Like if theres a big red blinking button in the middle of the page, people are probably going to click on it more than the navigation bar. It also explains about how certain graphical changes to the web design can be very effective.
I recommend this book to anyone who is new to blogging, and trying to set up their own site. It will make you understand a little more about link placements, and why cool widgets that you like, are not always very welcome to the visitors coming to your page.
I would also recommend this to any experienced web designer as it will brush up on things, as well as give you a new outlook on web site design.
Anyways that is all for now, and hopefully with me working 33% LESS hours a week now at the same pay rate. I can afford to spend more time doing what I like to do. Playing Video Games, and Making Money Online.
