'Fifty Shades Freed' Actor Rita Ora Will Join Ryan Reynolds in 'Detective Pikachu'
Can you Diglett?
Late last year, Ryan Reynolds was announced as the star of the live-action Pokémon movie, Detective Pikachu. From Deadpool to everyone's favorite yellow lightning monster, Blake Lively's husband is truly doing it all. Now, the upcoming flick has added one more big star to its cast: Rita Ora.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Ora has joined the project in an undisclosed manner. For what it's worth, we could see her as a perfect fit for a Persian. Maybe a Jigglypuff? Whatever the case, she's moving right on from her most recent role as Mia Grey in Fifty Shades Freed.
So far, the film has a great-looking cast. Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom's Justice Smith will star, as well as Big Little Lies' Kathryn Newton, Ken Watanabe, Bill Nighy, and Suki Waterhouse. Goosebumps' Rob Letterman will direct.
Every '90s kid should be thrilled that this movie is finally being made, considering the hundreds of hours we all spent trading Persians in the schoolyard. As fans of the franchise will recall, Pikachu was protagonist Ash's best bud, accompanying the trainer on his adventures as he fought to catch 'em all.
Detective Pikachu is set to take a different approach, following Smith's character on a quest to rescue his kidnapped dad. Newton will reportedly play a journalist while Reynolds' Pikachu will offer his help along the way.
Detective Pikachu is slated to hit theaters May 10, 2019.
