Supernatural Season 6 More Likely Than Ever

The Geek Files recently published a report from the UK ‘Asylum 3′ Convention, at which both Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki appeared to sign autographs and participate in organized talks to discuss “Supernatural” and take questions from the audience - while there, the duo expressed their thoughts about the possibility of a sixth season to The Geek Files - and when asked, Jensen Ackles commented that “We find out around January time if the show is going to be picked up again for another season.”
And would he want to return for a sixth season? “I have to. I have a six-year contract.”
Okay, so it may seem that Jensen isn’t very excited about the prospect of a sixth season - but he (and Jared too) has already commented this year about the strain of working so much and so long on the show, which is understandable considering he and Jared are on screen in almost every scene of every episode.
When Jared was asked about his plans for after the fifth season wraps, he answered “Supernatural Six. My best guess is that Supernatural will go beyond season five.”
In the past, “Supernatural” creator Eric Kripke has said on multiple occasions that the “road-map” for the show has always been 5 seasons:
“..we sort of have this 5-year map. And Jared and Jensen like the idea of a 5-year map because we work them so hard.”
The other important factor is that Eric Kripke does not have a contract in place to specifically produce a Sixth season of the show, so in theory a new season could be made without it’s creator on board, but that scenario is extremely unlikely. In fact, I think it’s common sense to understand that wouldn’t happen. No way. If a Sixth season is meant to be, Kripke will be given an extended deal or it will be branched to include Supernatural alongside other projects.
The reason that this is news would be that up until recently, the assumption was that the fifth season would be the last, and both stars seemed to be more than happy to wrap up the story and go out with a bang - it wasn’t that long ago that the series wasn’t even secure for a fourth or fifth season to start with, but the success of S4, both critically and via improved ratings, has of course changed the dynamic.
Should the show return for a Sixth season? Isn’t the obvious answer ‘yes’ if everyone is on board with Eric Kripke and he has a solid plan to continue the story? What do you think? And please, be respectful of each others opinions.
