Here is a platter made from a red mallee burl (Australia) that measured 10 3/8” x 7” x 2 1/2” The face of the burl was pretty flat so I used a small faceplate for initial mounting. The bottom surface was turned (with a tenon) and sanded to 2000 grit. The blank was then reversed in my chuck and the upper surface was turned ansd sanded to 2000 grit. Both sides were given 3 coats of Tung oil then the tenon was removed, the base bottom sanded to...
