The Rise of the Value of Surrealism - artmarketblog.com There is no doubt that Surrealism is a highly undervalued and under appreciated movement that has the potential for a significant increase in desirability and value in the not too distant future for reasons that I will explain later on. The most famous Surrealist artist would have to be Salvador Dali with the other major Surrealist painters being Jean Arp, Max Ernst, André Masson, René Magritte, Yves Tanguy, Pierre Roy, Paul Delvaux, and Joan Miró. Okay, so here is yet another Air India related post. Maybe I am enamored by the idea of cool give-aways by airline companies? For those that are not aware, Air India had actually employed the services of the famous "Surrealist" painter Salvador Dali. He was commissioned to design an ashtray that was given to lucky passengers. . Imagine going down to your adventurous traveling, grandmother's basement and finding this relic alongside a snake charming flute? It apparently can fetch $800-1200+. It is a funky design and one that I wouldn't look at twice, but hey it was designed in a limited addition by a ... Read Full Story

Surrealism, born in the 1920’s, was parented by the Dada movement that emerged in Paris during War World I. Inspired by visual art and writings, Surrealism was a cultural movement that merged schools of thought on politics, philosophy and social theory. Salvador Dali was a flamboyant surrealist who contributed artistically to the movement. Self-Portrait with Fried Bacon Surrealism An ode to Dali’s “soul’s glove”, not the soul or the inner self, this self-portrait portrays his face with ants and fried bacon. It was a work painted during Dali’s eight-year-exile in the United States He left his home in Spain during the Spanish Civil War. ... Read Full Story

Miuccia Prada, scion of the Prada fashion powerhouse, rolled out an animated surrealist and futuristic 6 minute film to present her 2008 Fall collection. The animated short, Fallen Shadows, was screened in NYC on September 10th. The dreamlike reel evokes, for me anyway, visions of the bizarro world of Surrealist masters Salvador Dali and Rene Magritte among others. Sweet dreams are made of this... via Read Full Story
