Susan Atkins is a convicted murderer who was part of the "Manson Family" led by Charles Manson. The group committed a series of nine murders at four locations in California over a period of five weeks in the summer of 1969. Atkins was convicted for her participation in eight of the killings, including the murder of Sharon Tate. She was sentenced to death, but her sentence was change to life in prison. She has been denied parole 11 times, but is currently asking to be released because she is dying of terminal cancer.

A US man has spoken of his anguish after discovering his long-lost father is apparently the notorious serial killer Charles Manson.
