Perhaps the most contentious race on the November ballot is the one for King County executive. Candidates Dow Constantine and Susan Hutchison are trying to prove to voters they can lead a government that serves nearly two millon people, a population larger than 14 states. King County is facing its toughest budget crisis since the Depression. Both candidates say they have the mettle to lead it through these toughest of times. Here’s a short list of recent King County controversies: tens of millions in budget cuts, charges of animal neglect at its shelters, a scathing audit report. And still the county’s been able to ... KING In this file image, King County Executive candidate Susan Hutchison is seen in her campaign headquarters in Seattle. SEATTLE - The Washington State Public Discolsure Commission announced Wednesday it will investigate an allegation that King County Executive candidate Susan Hutchison’s campaign failed to disclose information about campaign contributions. Specifically, they’re looking into a private home in Seattle’s Laurelhurst neighborhood. Hutchison’s campaign manager also lives in that home. The PDC is concerned that the home is an in-kind contribution that was not reported. by Steve Beren Perhaps I am a little biased, but as a resident of King County, I am very encouraged by the possibility about this race. Ostensibly, this is a non-partisan race, pitting King County Councilmember Dow Constantine (a far left liberal associated with failed county economic and budgetary policies) against conservative-leaning former TV anchor Susan Hutchison. In 2008, King County went for Obama over McCain by a margin of 70% to 28%. At this time, the race looks close, and Hutchison has been leading in the polls (though not by much). Constantine has waged a very aggressive, negative, and divisive campaign, and has ... Read Full Story

Susan Hutchison is stepping out from behind the news desk and aiming for City Hall. Susan Hutchison, former news anchor for KIRO-TV news in Seattle, is aiming to become a part of city politics next. The former anchorwoman will be running for the role of King County executive. From a Seattle Times article: Former KIRO-TV news anchor Susan Hutchison announced her candidacy this morning to succeed Ron Sims as King County executive. Declaring that "our county's financial house is in disorder," Hutchison questioned the need for new taxes to close a projected $50 million budget deficit next year. "We need a new direction in ... Please try to restrain the schadenfreude as you read this (delusional) letter from King County Executive candidate Susan Hutchison to her supporters. In conceding her defeat, she stands by giving "the right message," running a "fair and honorable campaign," and, lastly, comparing her career to astronaut John Glenn, who went on to serve in the US Senate. Because being a local television news anchor is equally prestigious as being the first...

We've gotten word that Susan Hutchison has conceded the race for Executive to Dow Constantine. Obviously, not earth-shattering news, as Dow declared victory last night, and the trends looked great for him. Hutchison has not updated her website, Twitter feed, or Facebook page with the news that she is throwing in the towel. Nor has her campaign released a statement. Of course, she could have conceded publicly last night and had the opportunity...

We haven't been on great terms with King County Executive candidate Susan Hutchison but it is election day and she made one stop in Seattle (in University Village, which is sort of like Seattle) on her whirlwind trip from the suburbs and we thought we'd give her some camera time. She was waving at cars, wearing a blue coat bedecked with a giant American flag patch. We walked up and she smiled at the SECB because she thought we were supporters...

The Stranger Election Control Board snuck into Susan Hutchison's "victory party" at the Bellevue Hyatt a few minutes ago wearing a women's power suit. The SECB basically had to go to Susan Hutchison's party dressed like Susan Hutchison in order to avoid being ejected from Susan Hutchison's party. We're in deep, pantsuited cover. The party is sparsely populated at the moment and is going down in a rather ugly ballroom at the Hyatt. Everyone is...
