The best horror film of 2007 is a musical about an unkempt barber who gives nasty-close shaves and an unkempt woman who bakes meaty pies with lots of heart (and other body parts), plying their trades in an unkempt 19th century London gorging happily on its Industrial Age.
And, yes, there is blood. Hammer horror bright, fire-engine red, hissing through the air like steam from a boiling teapot, or pooling on the floorboards like piss from a mangy dog. Mingling with the hiss and the... Read Full Story

Well, I’m back from Toronto! Having arrived late last night after a fantastic trip, I’ve spent the day doing some boring necessities and getting back in the swing of things. As promised, I did make some fun purchases on my trip, but those will have to wait to be shared. Instead, I want to share the remarkable costumes found in Sweeney Todd .
Colleen Atwood was in charge of that particular aspect of the movie, and she did a fantastic job. Of course, since she has designed for Edward... Read Full Story
I am sorry it took me so long to write this, but I finally got settled down in my room and inspired to write it... ----- September 17-20, the Henry Players--the local theatre group in Henry County, Georgia--performed "Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street." Though I will always prefer director Tim Burton's film of the musical, the Henry Players did not disappoint. They left my ears begging for more. Audience members alike should be able to say this is yet another smash-hit by our... Read Full Story
Oh my, Johnny Depp has hit the spot again for me! He plays the most compelling roles in movies. From Edward in Tim Burton's Edward Scissorhands to Mort Rainey in Secret Window. In the 1990 film Edward Scissorhands, poor Edward is left alone in a huge mansion after fate prevents his inventor from completing the project, the project which is him. He is left with scissors for hands and that certainly makes him seem dangerous! A sweet Avon lady finds him and well, the story begins! The entire... Read Full Story
I finished the 5th look for the collection. I was going to do the filthy Victorian "Mrs. Lovett's Pies" dress but once I started I realized that it made no sense with the rest of the collection. It was long, toile de joy, jade and simply did not fit in with the rest of the separates. So in true Project Runway fashion, I had to pull a 5th look out of my bum im no time flat and with no previous plans. But that is what good designers do. I had to make sure I used again fabrics that I had used... Read Full Story
“Sweeney Todd” the musical is well known in the theater world. I have seen a few scenes on PBS from the musical with George Hearn and Patti LuPone years ago so I knew it was a dark musical. Tim Burton makes it even darker (as he often does), the perfect director to bring this musical play to the screen.
The story begins when Benjamin Barker the popular town barber is thrown out of London and imprisoned on false charges, leaving his wife and child in the lecherous hands of the local judge... Read Full Story
Celluloid Even a bad Tim Burton film holds more creative vision than the majority of high-budget Hollywood-made films and the director's latest effort, Sweeney Todd : The Demon Barber Of Fleet Street ranks among his best. A visionary in every sense of the word, Burton achieves new heights visually, using his dark brush to paint the streets of London as foreboding and otherworldly. The film is indeed a musical (judging by the handful of early exits from the theater, it seems that not everyone... Read Full Story
This evening Tracy and I went to see Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Partially inspired by Adam's movie review along with the fact that I haven't gone to the movies in a long ass time, I figured I'll give a brief review of the movie. I remember seeing the stage musical of Sweeney Todd that had Angela Lansbury singing in it. What originally kept me interested in it is the fact that it's a very dark musical with murder and blood, all the while singing along. Tim Burton has... Read Full Story
