What symptoms can MRSA cause?

MRSA can cause pimples or boils.

The affected areas may be swollen, painful and red.

If MRSA bacteria gets into a person's blood stream, usually through a deep cut, it can spread throughout the body and cause other infections, including:

  • wound infections
  • abscesses
  • septic arthritis (joint infection)
  • heart valve infections
  • urinary tract infections
  • pneumonia (lung infection)
  • septicaemia (blood poisoning)
  • osteomyelitis (bone infection)
