In an awful case that is drawing lots of irate comments around the NFL, a Dallas police officer has been placed on desk duty after pulling over Texans running back Ryan Moats, who along with his wife were trying to make it to a local Dallas hospital to see his wife’s mother, who was dying. The officer, Robert Powell, drew his gun, threatened Moats with jail and held him in the hospital parking lot as she died, officials said today. Powell told his commanders he drew his gun but did not point it, Dallas police spokesman Lt. Andy Harvey said. That was disputed by ... Read Full Story

An NFL player said Monday he accepts the apology offered by a Dallas police officer who stopped him with a drawn gun in a hospital parking lot while his mother-in-law was dying inside. Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats said on ABC's "Good Morning America" that he hopes Officer Robert Powell was sincere in his apology. Powell stopped Moats' SUV outside Baylor Regional Medical Center in suburban Plano on March 18 after the vehicle rolled through a red light. Moats' wife, Tamishia, and other relatives were also in the car. The officer pulled out his gun and threatened Moats with jail as the player ... Read Full Story

Dallas officer delayed NFL player as relative died By SCHUYLER DIXON Associated Press Writer DALLAS — A police officer was placed on administrative leave Thursday over a traffic stop involving an NFL player whom he kept in a hospital parking lot and threatened to arrest while his mother-in-law died inside the building. Officer Robert Powell also drew his gun during the March 18 incident involving Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats in the Dallas suburb of Plano, police said. “I can screw you over,” he said at one point in the videotaped incident. When another officer came with word that Moats’ mother-in-law was indeed ... Read Full Story

DALLAS - Last week, Houston running back Ryan Moats and his wife, Tamishia, were accosted in a hospital parking lot while on their way to see Ms. Moat's dying mother who was inside - minutes away from death.  The perpetrator?  A Dallas police officer.  (Why am I not surprised?)   In an attempt to see his mother-in-law before she passed away, Mr. Moats and his wife rushed to the hospital.  Like most people who find themselves in similar emergency or medical situations, Mr. Moats put on his hazard lights and attempted to get to the hospital as quickly as possible.  In doing so, Mr. ... I am glad to see that the officer resigned. He does not deserve to represent the people of Dallas given his conduct in this case , and in previous cases: DALLAS— The police officer who pulled out his gun and threatened an NFL player with jail instead of allowing him inside a hospital where his mother-in-law was dying resigned Wednesday. Officer Robert Powell had been placed on leave for the March 18 incident when he stopped Houston Texans running back Ryan Moats' SUV outside Baylor Regional Medical Center in suburban Plano after the vehicle rolled through a red light. Let another owner make the mistake of claiming Ryan Moats off of waivers. Sure, he had a monstrous day racking up 126 rushing yards and three TDs, but this is not a sign of things to come for the journeyman running back. An owner making the claim on Moats is making the claim a week too late.  Not to say anyone should have seen this coming. Moats has shown...
