Tea
All about tea, tea drinking, tea leaves, and the culture of tea. So, basically, all about tea!
Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush)
Yes, there was at least one tea I brewed and sampled while on vacation that was not manufactured by Golden Moon Teas.
That would be a fantastic Darjeeling named Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) thanks to a swap with Jessica at Authori+ea. I enjoy tea swaps with Jessica as I am always the recipient of a great new tea. Not to mention, I am introduced to previously unknown tea manufacturers and more new teas.
Reviewing Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) also allowed me to expand my tea vocabulary. Check out my review below:
Composition: Black tea grown and harvested in the Darjeeling region of India from the famous Goomtee estate - hence the name. (This was found on Tea Logic’s website.)
Dry Visual: Various shades of greens, browns and blacks Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) is a potpourri of earthy tones. The tea leaves appear to be broken.
Dry Aroma: The only word I can use to describe this tea is “woodsy”. It is not sweet, fruity or floral - simply “woodsy”.
Flavor: A delicious full-bodied black tea, Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) is robust and slightly bitter. I detected woodsy undertones that others have described as musky and the experts describe as muscatel. According to Tea Logic’s brewing instructions - a sweetener or milk is recommended. I honestly preferred adding about a teaspoon of honey. The honey rounded out the tea eliminating the slight bitterness. (I’ll reserve the milk for chai tea.) I think Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) would make an excellent iced tea.
Liquor: A beautiful reddish brown hue - some would describe as rust.
Brewing Time: Recommended brewing time 3 - 4 minutes, I brewed for 4 minutes. I must confess, the first time I brewed Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) I brewed entirely too long. The tea was incredibly bitter. During this second attempt, I adhered strictly to the recommended brewing time and was truly pleased with the results.Manufacturer: Tea Logic Caffeine: Yes Special Note: According to the Tea Board of India - “Darjeeling Tea” means: tea which has been cultivated, grown, produced, manufactured and processed in the 87 tea gardens located in Darjeeling. Darjeeling lies to the north east of India, among the great Himalayas, in the state of West Bengal. Tea gardens are also known as tea estates - Goomtee is one such estate. What is 2nd Flush? The term 2nd flush is related to harvesting time. Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush) is harvested in June. Its identifiable characteristics include and amber hued, full bodied, muscatel-flavored cup.
The next time you are looking to enjoy a truly robust tea, reach for a Darjeeling. If you are really lucky you’ll be reaching for the Darjeeling Goomtee (2nd Flush). Until then… Happy Tea Drinking!
