Micro Pigs Smaller than Teacup Pigs Available in the United States
Amidst all the controversy surrounding teacup pigs, with Rupert Grint buying a perfect pair from breeder Jane Croft and Paris Hilton paying $4,500 for her little pig pet, Andreas Georgiades a breeder of pet pigs in Huntley, Illinois recently announced that Micro Pigs are available in the United States. He went on to say that his micro pigs, that he has been breeding for the past three years are smaller than the Teacup Pigs bred by Jane Croft. Georgiades breeds two types of miniature Pigs, namely the Vietnamese Potbelly Pig and the Juliana Pig also known as the Painted Miniature Pig
The Vietnamese Pig have an average height of approximately 14 inchesand their average weight is between 25 to 40 pounds - quite a lot smaller than the Teacup Pig that weighs 65 pounds when they reach maturity.
The Juliana Miniature Pig that was specially developed to improve on both intelligence and temperament of the pot belly pig as well as to reduce the size of the fully grown pet. The Juliana Pig, which is a cross of several breeds, originated in Europe and was later imported to the States. Georgiades said that he has two litters of piglets that were born in August 2009. The mother of these letters apparently only weighs 21 pounds.
The Juliana Pig is the smallest of all the micro pigs measuring an average of 10 to 16 inches and on maturity weighing only 15 to 30 pounds.
The Juliana Pig has a slight potbelly, smallish ears, short hair and a short straight tail. These pigs coloring vary between either black or black and white or red with white or black.
