The mobile penetration rate in Honduras reached 103% in September, according to figures from local newspaper La Prensa. This is remarkable growth from the 88% penetration rate reported by the regulator Conatel in March 2009. Mobile advertising service, MyScreen Mobile, has teamed up with Latin America's largest mobile operator, América Móvil, to offer mobile advertising. Subscribers can voluntarily sign up to the service, which provides full-screen adverts at the end of every call. The system allows for 'better visibility' according to MyScreen's press release than traditional SMS advertising or banners on mobile internet sites.

SMS prices in India are set to drop significantly, according to the Times of India. Following an editorial featured in the popular newspaper alleging that SMS prices were very significantly higher than was necessary for the operators to recoup the costs incurred and make a profit, it is now reporting that the telecoms regulator TRAI is reviewing the pricing policy on SMS, and may consider intervening to bring prices down.

There is no other industry I have seen, including the military, that uses acronyms as much as the telecom industry. Something that seems as simple as picking up the handset, dialing a number and getting someone on the other end can be rendered totally confusing by acronyms when talking about how it all takes place and the equipment needed.
