Ever wonder who was in the car with Teddy Pendergrass when he crashed his car back in 1982?
Tenika Watson, a transsexual nightclub performer, was in the car that night of March 18th, 1982 when R&B legend Teddy Pendergrass crashed his Rolls-Royce, and became paralyzed from the waist down. The crash happened in Philadelphia when the car hit a guardrail and crossed over into the opposite lane before hitting trees, trapping the two in the vehicle
Tenika Watson (blogspot.com) Tenika, whose original name was John Watson, was relatively unhurt. Pendergrass was driving with a suspended license for unpaid traffic tickets, and had wrecked a Maserati just the week before. At first there were rumors that alcohol was a factor, but police discounted the claims later.
Pendergrass said he and Watson were casual acquaintances, and he was just giving her a ride home the night of the accident. Following the crash, he was confined to a wheelchair and had limited use of his arms for the rest of his life. He died on January 13, 2010 from colon cancer.
